After watching the video above from htclinux, I got to thinking: Could the HTC HD2 became a fully functional tablet phone, even with it's lack of screen real estate? Sure, the HD2's screen is a huge 4.3" for a phone, but compared to most tablets, that's tiny. The latest released version of Ubuntu for the HD2 (version v0.2) is great, but suffers from having small buttons to press (after all, it is Ubuntu, not a phone os). In the above video, showing what I assume to be the upcoming v0.3, Ubuntu's Netbook layout is shown, with smooth kinetic scrolling and navigation. After watching the web browsing experience, I was impressed: it looks like the HD2 might become a make-shift tablet for me, sometime in the near future. The overall experience looks smooth, and word has it that it might even support multitouch at one point. Now what would set this apart from most other available tablets on the market is the ability to support Phone functions, such as phone calling (currently incomplete) and texting.
While this is mostly speculation, I do have to say that the video above demonstrates the promise of Linux on Windows Mobile devices. Nice job to all the folks at Htclinux!
