Even though the KIN Twins were given a relaunch opportunity, they have yet again been killed off by their parent, Big Red. Verizon will be shutting down one good feature of KIN, the Studio, on January 31st, 2011. To clarify, all cloud services of the KIN will be shut down at this time. Recall that the KIN's data, aside from the web browser and email client, is fed completely through a cloud server, and then you'll realize how much of a problem this truly is.
Effective on that date, the feed reader, Loop, Studio backup, the Spot, and all other social networking features will be shutdown. Additionally, any data stored on the cloud will also be removed, which will effect any pictures stored on the device. Verizon assures its customers that the alarm clock, texting, Zune Pass (over WiFi), camera (using Zune software), and web browser will continue to work, but if this isn't enough, you can receive a different 3g phone for free.
Considering this move, it seems either Microsoft really wants its extra server space, or Verizon wants to be done with the KIN altogether. The cost of trading out these devices will currently cost an arm and a leg, except for the fact that, well, not a lot were sold.
Will it still be worth it to keep your KIN? You tell us.
