Today is a special day we almost forgot. It's a day that makes the start of WindowsPhoneHacker, on one lonely night in front of an outdated computer with a phone carriers would practically pay you to take off their hands. HTC 8525 in hand and webcam handy, a little project was started, one that has grown in directions less predictable than cherry roots.
In this last year, a lot of things have changed. We aren't the only ones who have taken a change in an unexpected direction. Microsoft killed Windows Mobile for good (more or less), and Windows Phone 7 (Series) was started. That was a blow for us. No more complaining about the speed of TouchFlo3D, no more stuffing our HTC Hermes into GameBoy Advanced cases. Rather, a new kind of Windows Phone was born, and a new kind of Windows Phone needed hacking. To sum it up, all of our childish achievements aside, here's a look back on our accomplishments over the last year:
- Became the #1 place for "jailbreaking" Windows Phone devices, hitting 250,000 video views to date
- Continued to support said jailbreaking, past NoDo and on to Mango
- Discovered "Jaxbot's Dehydration Hack", which is still used even today on Mango for supercharged speeds
- Continued to give faith to the HTC HD2 (how good we forget you?)
- Gave small hints of support to homebrew users, such as custom themes and disabling that annoying shutter sound pre-Mango
- Showed how to grab NoDo early
- Showed users how to get Mango back in June
- Showed how to trick Zune into giving out Mango early
- Demonstrated how to get WiFi Sharing on Samsung devices
Many more tidbits, fluff, and support to our readers. Of course, we cannot pretend like this year was perfect. There's much we would love to share, much maintenance we desperately need to breathe into the site. That's our goal for this next year: to make Windows Phone Hacker more easy to navigate, a place where users can go to in times of need or curiosity and leave with their phones in full customization.
But our goals, dreams, and plans aside, we would like to say this: Thank you. Thank you to all our readers, who provide the site with the attention it needs and bear through the weather it suffers. You guys are the reason we can exist, and for that, thanks. Another thanks goes out to all the fellow members of the blogosphere, who's linkbacks and attention have brought more visitors to the site, and have given those users the gift of knowledge of all the great things Windows Phone can offer just below it's skin.
Here's to another great year, one to be full of hacks, experiments, and overall sharing. Thank you.
